A Guide to Facial Oils

Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! I hope you are all having an absolutely lovely week! I thought I would write a quick post on facial oils. The green community is absolutely filled with facial oils! Actually oils of all kinds. Facial, hair and body oils just run rampant. When I was looking to try a facial oil I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of choices and the price range.

Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil – $40 This is a great starter oil for all skin types! I find this to be a really great treatment oil for night time. I use this every other day in the PM just to help reduce sun spots or hyper pigmentation due to acne scarring. Pai says this oil is specifically effective in the treatment of: dull skin, damaged skin, blemishes, scars, stretch marks, sun damage, age spots, or fine lines.

Overall: Not a daily oil but a fantastic treatment oil. I use this in the PM every other day (or less) and I always wake up with brighter, clearer, happier skin.

Tamanu Calm – $32 This is a lovely oil that I use at night almost daily depending on what my skin needs. The carrier oil, Tamanu, is an extremely effective hydrating and healing oil. If you have tried facial oils before and they have broken you out, I highly recommend trying Tamanu. It’s extremely potent without being greasy. The Calm Blend is infused with lavender oil and rosehip seed oil. I find that this oil really helps to reduce any skin redness and irritation.

Overall: A great daily PM facial oil. Especially great for those with environmentally stressed skin. I live in Philadelphia so my skin NEEDS some help in that department!

Tamanu Inspire – Starting at $28. If you have an idea of what you’re looking for but you just can’t find it then look no further. Jeannine, the owner of The Oil Lab, will whip you up your very own concoction! Add lavender oil or tea tree oil or even some Pumpkin seed oil! If you don’t know what your skin needs give her an email!  Jeannine would be happy to help you create the perfect oil for your skin!

My Inspire Oil is infused with Tea Tree oil to help with breakouts. I can’t use traditional Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid treatments because it just dries out my skin too much! This oil keeps my skin supple while allowing the tea tree to disinfect and clarify!

Overall: A fantastic PM treatment oil for when you are feeling a bit congested. This is also really wonderful if you have allergies or a cold because the smell of tea tree is so soothing!

Ko & Humble Virgin Argan Oil – 1 oz for $19 This is probably my most versatile oil. I like to use this for the face, hair and skin. I actually love using this after I epilate my legs. It just leaves my skin extremely moisturized and soft. This is an extremely simple but effective oil

Overall: A good oil for day or nighttime use. I actually like to use this one as a massage oil as well because it doesn’t have any fragrance and it has nice slip. Just a few drops is all you need!

Ko & Humble Golden Jojoba Oil – 4 oz for $17 Another really simple, yet effective oil! This is especially good for those bearded men in your life! My fiancé loves to use this as a post shave oil to really calm any irritations and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. This oil is not at all greasy so I find it perfect for daily use!

Overall: A great day time moisturizer that also doubles as a beard oil. In the winter I get dry by my eyebrows so this is nice on and around the eyes as well!

Ko & Humble Passion Fruit Seed Oil – 0.5 oz for $15 This is by far one of my favorite facial oils to date. It’s simple but extremely effective. If you have oily skin or even combination this is a great, light, everyday facial oil. Extremely high in antioxidants this is a wonderful anti aging oil.

Overall: The perfect everyday oil that works beautifully under makeup. Even if I am using a treatment oil at night I like to pat this into the under eye area. It’s just so gentle and doesn’t irritate the eyes at all!

Phew, okay lots of information! Let’s do a quick rundown shall we?

What are you looking for?

Everyday Oil – you can’t go wrong with Ko & Humble. Really simple and effective oils that won’t break the bank! They come in a brown glass bottle with a glass dropper. This effectively reduces sunlight exposure so as to preserve the oil longer. Check out their Oil Guide if you don’t know where to start!

Specialty blends to suit your skin – No questions here, Tamanu The Oil Lab is your best option. Jeannine will help you decide what’s best for your skin and whip up your perfect oil or you can choose one of her beautifully formulated blends! These are perfect if you’re looking to solve some skin issues. This comes in a completely opaque glass bottle with a glass dropper. Completely hidden from sunlight your custom oils will last longer! Use the code “prettyneutral” at checkout to receive 5% off of your order 🙂

Treatment Oil – Although it’s a bit more expensive I think the Pai Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil is a great treat for the skin. If you’re just starting out I don’t think it’s necessary because I personally can’t use it everyday but it is nice for help fade some sun spots and hyper pigmentation. My only complaint is the bottle. Yes, the oil is a lovely color but I would rather it be hidden from sunlight so it remains effective longer. Especially because I only use it a few times a week I want to make sure it remains potent.

I really hope this helped! Let me know your favorite facial oils down in the comments below!

Lovely collection! I have to try passionfruit oil. I use pure argan oil and another oil blend for problematic skin by slovak brand Mylo. I also love to use oils for my hair, black castor oil is my favourite.
