What do you look for in a blog?

Untitled design-2

Hello everyone! I just wanted to post a bit of a chatty blog post. I really like to learn about my readers and for my readers to learn a bit about me. I was just wondering over the past week, what it is that you look for when you are reading a blog? I’m just going to share what I enjoy reading but please let me know in the comments what it is that you look for!

I really love seeing the makeup looks that people do. Especially if they’re a bit out of the ordinary or push the boundaries. I don’t even necessarily need a video tutorial, I just really love seeing the way people do their makeup. It inspires me. I guess that’s why I love posting unusual looks on my own blog, I just find it fun.Β If that’s what you’re into I definitely recommend checking out Emily Loke. She does absolutely amazing makeup looks that are still really wearable.

Photography is definitely something that pulls me into a blog. I am still working on my photography skills but I really like to make sure that my photos are clean and uncluttered. There are so many different styles of photography, what do you like best? Flat lays? Shots with a nice background? Flowers? Geometric or a more scattered approach? Some of my favorite blogs for great photography are Kate LaVie and Tamira Jarrel. Super different styles but I love that!

I really enjoy seeing a mix of different products on a blog. I like to see both high end and drugstore products. I especially appreciate when bloggers talk about products that I’ve never heard about or completely forgot about! New products are always fun but it’s nice to see some throw backs every once in a while! Who knows, your readers may just dig it out of their makeup storage!

Let me know what you guys enjoy down in the comments! I write my blog posts because it’s what I want to see and learn about but everyone has different tastes! The world of beauty blogging is so diverse and I think that’s one of the best things about it!

I agree, I like to see a mix of products, some nice photography. I can’t stand when people have bad grammar or spelling mistakes lol. Something else I like to see is a face, what the person looks like… I don’t know why, I mean it’s not necessary, but I feel like if I see a face I’m more likely to follow.

I definitely agree! That’s a great point. I really like to know what the blogger looks like. It just makes everything they write more personable.

Whenever I visit a new blog, the first thing that takes my attention is the photography(and that’s what took my attention about your blog at the first place, you’re really good). I really like Kate LaVie and Tamira Jarrel’s photography style, they are great and I envy them! This is the first time I came across to Emily’s blog and her makeup is so pretty, I will make sure to check out for more. When it is a makeup, I don’t really need a video. High quality photos that show the look properly would be enough for me.
I like reading about product reviews, the new products and the beauty tips. Let’s say just general beauty chats πŸ™‚

Agreed! I definitely love to see nice photography. Thanks so much! It’s a work in progress ha. Emily’s blog really has amazing content! It helps that her husband is a professional photographer! He does amazing work!

Photography is definitely one of the first tings that draw us to a blog. For us blogging is a visual experience

Right now I am a massive fan of video content and especially travel videos! Although I am always drawn to a blog with editorial style imagery and the more colour for me the better as my feed and blog is quite vibrant!

Just followed via bloglovin and hope we can keep in touch xx

I agree, I also like to see a mixture of high end and drug store products. I really enjoy reading favourites and empties posts. I think it’s a great way of seeing what people have or are enjoying using πŸ™‚

I’ve been thinking of doing favorites post. I really like seeing what people are using as well! Thanks for commenting πŸ™‚

Great post. πŸ™‚ I definitely like it when there’s a good balance of high-end/drugstore products. Makeup looks and great photography inspire me, too. It’s amazing how much of a difference photos can make. And good swatches! It can be a little disappointing when I read a fantastic review of a product I’m genuine interested in, but there are no swatches included in the review. πŸ™ x

I totally agree, I find doing swatches pretty difficult but I definitely am working on getting a good format down. I usually use temptalia for swatches just because her lighting is always really consistent. Thanks for commenting!
