Makeup Challenge (1) Liquid Metal Lids

Alright! One challenge down nine to go! If you’re wondering what I am doing I set up a little challenge for myself which I will link here. Today’s challenge was Liquid Metal Lids. I think I gave myself a break on the first challenge because metallic eyes are one of my favorite things to do. I just love the depth and intensity of metallic shadows.

Honestly the hardest part about this challenge was trying to decide if I wanted to go gold, silver or copper. I finally settled on a rich deep gold that has a slight green/coppery undertone. This eye makeup is honestly super easy. All I did was get a flat brush (usually a concealer brush will do the trick) and wet it with some setting spray. I then mapped out the general area of where I wanted the metallic shadow and then patted my shadow on.

I think the best thing you can do with metallic shadows is either apply them with a flat brush or with your finger. That’s how you will get the most foiled effect. After the gold was added to my mobile lid (making sure not to go above the crease) and all around the lash line, I added a bit of depth with a rich brown shadow with a soft hint of gold running through it in the crease and outer corner

I finished with a bit of shimmery light gold on the brow bone and the inner corner along with lashings of mascara. At first I wanted to keep the look very simple so I used a nude lip (partly because I was going to CVS after I shot this…) and then I threw caution to the wind and slapped a pink lipstick on just for fun. What do you think? Do you like the nude or the not-so-conventional pink? Have you created your Liquid Metal Lids yet? Tag me on instagram!

Such a gorgeous look! It makes your eyes stand out so much! I’ve never tried anything like this since I usually go for more natural looks, but I bet it’d make my green eyes pop too! I’ll have to recreate this soon. 🙂

I love this look, such a stunning gold shade and it looks incredibly pigmented too. I agree about applying metallic shades like this with a flat shader brush, it’s the bets way x

Yeah it’s incredibly pigmented! I love using that method because it prevents lots of fall out which is really nice. Thanks for commenting 🙂

Love this look! I especially like what you did on the lower eyelid, I find the color pops even more when you have your eyes open. I always wanted to try something like this but I’m worried it’ll look too out of place or not as professional for work. 🙁 Maybe I can start with a slightly more neutral shade.

    • Ellen October 6, 2015 / 06:49

Yeah, definitely try it with even a metallic taupe or something like that so it’s not quite as obvious! I usually just wear these looks on the weekend when I know I’m not going into work! Thanks for commenting!
